McAndrews shareholder Edward A. Mas, II, was featured in Leading Lawyers Magazine—Business Edition for 2018. Mas shares his journey from youthful caddy at Park Ridge Country Club to accepting a Chick Evans Scholarship which eventually led to becoming an elite patent trial lawyer with McAndrews, Held & Malloy, where he had originally clerked. At the time, the firm was only four years old and Mas saw his chance to get in on the ground floor and learn from the best.
Mas’s trial and appellate litigation practice focuses on complex patent and technology-related litigation, frequently in the medical device, pharma and biotech spaces. Among the technologies in which he most often works is cardiovascular devices, pharmaceuticals, biologics, nutrition products, industrial equipment and automotive components. Mas regularly serves as lead trial counsel in patent lawsuits throughout the country—many with corresponding European actions. He also represents clients in patent office post-grant proceedings and advises them on freedom to operate, licensing, due diligence, and strategic and global portfolio management.
