McAndrews Attorney Malaika D. Tyson, Ph.D., Elected as Vice Chair/Chair-Elect of the Associate Board of the Chicago Committee

McAndrews, Held & Malloy associate Malaika D. Tyson, Ph.D., was recently elected Vice Chair/Chair-Elect of the Associate Board of the Chicago Committee, which is dedicated to advancing minority attorneys. In her new role, Tyson will heavily influence the direction of the Chicago Committee’s programming and services offered to minority associates in the coming years.
The Chicago Committee was founded in 1987 with the mission to advance racial and ethnic diversity in the Chicago legal community. It supports programming, leadership opportunities and other initiatives for its member law firms, minority partners, associates and law students, and provides tools that help increase and sustain diversity in Chicago’s law firms.

Tyson joined McAndrews, Held & Malloy as a law clerk in 2009 and as a full-time associate in 2011. Her practice includes patent opinion work, transactional intellectual property and patent litigation, focusing mainly on the nutritional, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Tyson received her J.D. from The University of Chicago Law School and earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry from Purdue University. Prior to joining McAndrews she worked at Sigma-Aldrich Biotechnology as a Senior Research and Development Scientist in the Proteomics group. In 2009 Tyson was the recipient of the McAndrews Diversity in Patent Law Fellowship.
