McAndrews’ Christopher Singer, Ph.D., to Participate in PLI’s Fundamentals of Patent Prosecution

McAndrews, Held & Malloy Shareholder Christopher P. Singer, Ph.D., will participate in the Practising Law Institute’s (PLI) Fundamentals of Patent Prosecution 2015: A Boot Camp for Claim Drafting & Amendment Writing, May 12-14, 2015, in Chicago. Dr. Singer, along with other experienced patent prosecutors, will lead one of many small group clinics to further develop and strengthen attendees’ patent writing skills.

The three-day event is designed for patent attorneys, patent agents, technical advisors and patent liaisons with no or very little patent prosecution experience. It will focus on teaching the basics of claim drafting, patent application preparation and prosecution, and will provide a review of recent developments in the law, as well as explain:

  • How to decide which elements of the invention should be included in the patent application and which aspects should be featured in the claims
  • How to prosecute an application to obtain allowance of an enforceable patent
  • How to interview an Examiner
  • How to use reissues, reexamination supplemental examinations, Inter Partes review and other post-issuance proceedings
  • How to anticipate patent litigation issues during the patent prosecution process
  • How to approach patent opinion drafting

Dr. Singer concentrates his practice on securing patent rights in life science technologies, such as biotechnology, chemistry, pharmaceuticals and medical devices. His experience includes patent prosecution and global patent portfolio management, as well as due diligence, patent validity and infringement, freedom-to-operate, technology landscape and patentability analyses. Dr. Singer provides counsel to a variety of clients including global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, national universities, international chemical companies, as well as start-up companies and individual inventors. He holds a Ph.D. in chemistry, and his patent prosecution expertise extends over a broad range of biological and chemical technologies.
