McAndrews, Held & Malloy Associate, Shaun Zhang Appointed Vice Chair of IPO's U.S. Patent Law Committee

McAndrews, Held & Malloy Associate, Shaun Zhang has been appointed to serve as Vice Chair of the IPO’s U.S. Patent Law Committee. The U.S. Patent Law Committee will advise the President, the Executive Director and the Board of Directors of IPO regarding legislative changes to United States patent law. The committee will review proposed legislative initiatives and proactively submit recommendations for legislative changes that would enhance United States patent law. The committee will educate IPO members regarding the provisions of enacted legislation.

The Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO), established in 1972, is a trade association for owners of patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets.  IPO serves all intellectual property owners in all industries and all fields of technology. IPO advocates for effective and affordable IP ownership rights and provides a wide array of services to members, including: supporting member interests relating to legislative and international issues; analyzing current IP issues; information and educational services; and disseminating information to the general public on the importance of intellectual property rights.

Zhang joined McAndrews in January 2017 as an associate. He concentrates his practice in intellectual property law with particular focus on resolution of IP and technology-related disputes, including through patent litigation. In addition, he has prepared and prosecuted numerous patent applications at the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Zhang received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and his B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Georgia Tech. Prior to joining McAndrews, he was in-house counsel at Hewlett Packard.
