CHICAGO, IL-October 6, 2017- McAndrews, Held & Malloy announced today that associate Shaun Zhang along with his team recently won the “Best Team Pitch” title in the fifth annual Rate My Pitch program of the Chicago Committee. Zhang and his team were coached by Anixter in-house counsel.

Rate My Pitch is a rigorous professional development program for mid- and senior-level associates from large law firms in Chicago that aims to provide instruction in business relationship-building practices.  Associates are selected for the program based on nominations from their firms and interviews.  Participants are assigned to teams to develop and present a formal pitch to a panel of in-house counsel from Chicago-area based companies in response to a mock RFQ for legal services.  This year, General Counsel from Anixter, Allstate, Motorola Mobility, and General Electric participated as judges, and in-house attorneys from their legal teams served as coaches for the participants.

“The Rate My Pitch program has provided a unique opportunity not just to gain technical skill but to foster impactful relationships with diverse young attorneys and corporate leaders,” Zhang said, “and I am extremely proud of my firm, McAndrews, Held & Malloy, for their support of The Chicago Committee, an organization that champions the advancement of diversity in the legal profession. “

Zhang joined McAndrews in January 2017 as an associate. He concentrates his practice in the areas of intellectual property law with particular focus on resolution of intellectual property and technology-related disputes, including through patent litigation. In addition, Zhang has prepared and prosecuted numerous patent applications at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Prior to McAndrews, Zhang worked as in-house counsel at Hewlett Packard.

Zhang currently is a board member of the Asian American Bar Association Law Foundation and the Chinese American Bar Association of Chicago.

Since 1987, The Chicago Committee has sought racial and ethnic diversity in the legal profession by collaborating with its law firms and membership to drive sustainable institutional change at law firms and corporate legal departments; provide professional development; and cultivate the community of minority lawyers through programming and leadership opportunities.
