McAndrews, Held & Malloy Shareholder Christopher V. Carani will be speaking at The John Marshall Law School’s 61st Annual Intellectual Property Conference Friday, November 3rd .
The John Marshall Law Schools 61st Annual IP Conference brings together students and academics to discuss and stay on top of the ever-changing field of law. This one-day conference covers development in patent, trade secrets, and antitrust, trademarks, copyrights, Frist Amendment, right of publicity, and entertainment; and information technology and privacy law.
Carani will be speaking on the copyright panel that will cover issues including transformative use, functionality, future of the Copyright Office, appropriation at, and fair use.
Carani is nationally recognized in the field of design law, which includes the protection and enforcement of product design through the use of copyrights, trade dress and design patents. He was included in IAM Magazine’s 2016 “IAM Patent 1000,” and referred to as one of the U.S.’s “pre-eminent design law experts.” He has also published and lectured extensively on the topic. Carani is on faculty at Northwestern University School of Law as an Adjunct Professor teaching IP law, and conferred his J.D. from The Law School at The University of Chicago. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Marquette University. Away from the law, Carani is a studied jazz musician playing upright bass on the Chicago jazz circuit.
