Complimentary Annual Event Offers How-Tos on Navigating the Supreme Court’s 2013-2014 Decisions, FRAND Licensing and Post-Grant Reviews

Chicago, IL, May 22, 2014 – Intellectual property protection, litigation strategy and sound business practices involving IP will intersect at McAndrews, Held & Malloy’s fifth annual Intellectual Property Symposium on Thursday, July 24, 2014.

The symposium draws corporate IP leaders and prominent lawyers from Chicago and throughout the United States and abroad.  Speakers will address a variety of subjects including strategic and practical approaches to litigating IP cases, navigating IP litigation after several significant recent decisions by the Supreme Court, innovative approaches to managing litigation costs, in-depth analysis of recent FRAND/RAND decisions and the impact on standard essential patents, recent development in post issuance practice before the PTAB and recent ethics developments in IP law.

Additionally, the symposium will include a panel of international attorneys from Australia, China, Japan and Europe, as well as a panel discussion featuring in-house corporate leaders from Whirlpool, McDonald’s, Mesoblast and Navistar.  James Grogan from the Illinois ARDC will deliver a presentation focusing on developments in ethics rules and regulations and how they affect IP practice and litigation.  The symposium will be accredited for continuing legal education, allowing attendees to earn up to seven hours of MCLE credit, including one ethics credit.

“As in previous years, this year’s symposium will be held in our firm’s offices in Chicago and, due to the popularity the event has built since it was first held in 2009, we are encouraging all those interested in attending the symposium to contact Winona Jackson at our firm at wjackson@mcandrews-ip.com as space will be limited,” said shareholder Gerald C. Willis, who also indicated that a more detailed agenda will be available in a few weeks.

Presenters this year from McAndrews include firm President Robert A. Surrette, as well as shareholders Scott P. McBride, Christopher V. Carani, Gerald C. Willis, Peter J. McAndrews, Thomas J. Wimbiscus, James P. Murphy, Ron A. DiCerbo, Troy A. Groetken and Herbert D. Hart III.
