Popular Annual Event to Focus on the Intersection of IP Law and Sound Business Practices

Chicago, IL – August 23, 2013 – Intellectual property protection and sound business practices will intersect at McAndrews, Held & Malloy’s fourth annual Intellectual Property Symposium on Wednesday, October 17, 2013. The complimentary event, which is attended by innovative IP leaders from Chicago and throughout the United States and abroad, will provide strategic and practical approaches to litigating at the Patent Office, growing and developing patent portfolios, and managing the costs of litigation, among other topics. By attending the event, intellectual property attorneys, agents and specialists have the opportunity to earn seven hours of MCLE credit, including one IL ethics credit.

“This year’s symposium will be unique to previous ones in that it will focus on the increasingly important relationship between the worlds of business and law,” said Scott P. McBride, a patent litigator at McAndrews, Held & Malloy. “Attendees will learn more on the practical “how-to,” and be able to take what they learn in this one-day event and apply it immediately to the recommendations they provide on AIA-related procedures and the latest IP laws.”

Presenters from McAndrews, Held & Malloy include firm President Robert A. Surrette, Chairman Timothy J. Malloy and shareholders Herbert D. Hart III, Scott P. McBride, Christopher V. Carani, George Wheeler, Sandra A. Frantzen and Gerald C. Willis.  In addition, during the in-house panel discussions, representatives from companies such as Stryker, JM Huber, Cummins, Navistar, Stepan Company, US Gypsum, Wrigley and others will be on hand to share their insights on these topics.

“With AIA provisions going into effect earlier this year, new developments in U.S. and global IP law are more important than ever for attorneys to understand and convey to clients,” said Christopher V. Carani, a shareholder at McAndrews, Held & Malloy. “The symposium in October aims to provide attendees with a comprehensive look at cutting-edge IP information in an efficient, effective and thoughtful manner.”
