Firm Is The Highest Ranked Chicago-Based Law Firm Included On National Law Journal’s “Top 100 Verdicts” List

CHICAGO, IL – April 2, 2014 – McAndrews, Held & Malloy, an IP law firm recognized for successfully navigating high-risk, high-stakes matters, has earned yet another accolade from The National Law Journal (NLJ) in the publication’s “Top 100 Verdicts of 2013.”

In the NLJ’s annual special report on the largest verdicts in the nation, McAndrews’ $70 million jury verdict was cited as the 25th largest verdict and the fifth largest IP verdict in the United States.  That accolade does not account for the treble damages, supplemental damages, prejudgment interest or attorney fees that were later awarded in the case for a total judgment in excess of $248 million. The patent case involved medical devices and was tried on behalf of one of the world’s most innovative medical device companies.

McAndrews, Held and Malloy shareholders Greg Vogler (lead counsel) and Sharon Hwang tried the case before an eight-person jury in the Western District of Michigan.  Shareholders Deborah Laughton and Laura Personick also served as trial counsel.

“Our clients invest countless hours, dollars and other resources to create groundbreaking innovations.  Clients know they can turn to us because of our unique capability as trial-experienced patent attorneys, who can ensure that those investments are protected and not taken by others,” Vogler said.

“And, yes, we’re certainly thrilled with the recognition by the NLJ,” he continued, “but delivering wins is not extraordinary in our minds. Regardless of the client, the case or venue, we provide an ‘A-team’ of trial-experienced patent attorneys whose tireless and precise preparation gives our clients the winning edge in such high-stakes litigation.”
