McAndrews Shareholder Wil Rao Invited to Speak at Ocean Tomo’s Inaugural Trade Secret Management and Monetization Symposium

McAndrews, Held & Malloy Shareholder Wil Rao was a featured speaker at the Ocean Tomo Trade Secret Management and Monetization Symposium on September 10, 2013, in Chicago. At the event, Wil was among a group of industry leaders who presented on the latest developments in U.S. trade secret law, including significant cases and legislation. Specifically, Wil’s panel focused on recent amendments to the Economic Espionage Act, the status of the Administration’s Strategy on Mitigating the Theft of U.S. Trade Secrets, and other proposed legislation. According to Ocean Tomo, the inaugural Symposium aims to be the premier trade secret event, as it melds together the business and legal issues that executives and in-house counsel often face in today’s cyber-age global economy. The theme of this year’s Symposium was titled, “Trade Secrets: Valuable, But Vulnerable, IP Assets,” and sessions addressed issues such as cyber-attacks, cyber-protection, enforcement, and trade secret vs. patent protection, among other topics. The event benefits the Center for Applied Innovation, a non-profit organization that promotes IP education, public policy and assistance programs.

Wil currently serves as Chair of the International Subcommittee of the AIPLA Trade Secret Committee. He has significant experience in litigating, procuring and developing intellectual property rights across a wide range of technologies. He represents Fortune 50 corporations, small businesses and individuals in areas ranging from all facets of patent prosecution to written opinions to reexaminations to licensing to the successful multi-venue multi-patent, multi-part patent litigation all across the United States, both at the trial and appellate levels. Rao is widely published in the field of IP and trade secret law, and has provided commentary in numerous legal, business and scientific publications.
