CHICAGO, IL – October 21, 2013 – McAndrews, Held & Malloy, Ltd. announced today that shareholders  Sandra A. Frantzen and Nabeela Rasheed, Ph.D., have been named to Super Lawyer’s “Top Women Attorneys in Illinois” listing. The rankings feature female attorneys who have distinguished themselves within their practices, as well as undergone a thorough selection process that involves third-party validation of their professional accomplishments. The listing was published as a special section in the October 2013 issue of Chicago magazine.

The “Top Women Attorneys in Illinois” includes the women selected to the 2013 Illinois Super Lawyers and Rising Stars listings that were published earlier this year. Frantzen was selected for intellectual property litigation, and Rasheed was selected for intellectual property law. According to the publisher, less than two-and-a-half percent of the total lawyers in any state are named to the list.

Sandra A. Frantzen focuses on patent, trademark and copyright litigation and client counseling. Serving clients in a variety of industries with a heavy focus on medical devices and pharmaceuticals, Frantzen advises clients on intellectual property procurement and strategy, and has litigated cases involving damages in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Most recently, Frantzen represented defendants in a series of cases where all of the patents-in-suit were invalidated for failing to satisfy the written description and enablement requirements.  Frantzen is a regular speaker on intellectual property topics and, in 2012, she was asked by the Department of State to present a program on intellectual property that was sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Jordan.  Early next month, she will be addressing regulations in the U.S. biosimilar industry at a conference in Istanbul.  Frantzen is active in the legal community and currently serves as Vice President of the Arab American Bar Association in Illinois.

Nabeela Rasheed, Ph.D., concentrates her practice on the acquisition and enforcement of intellectual property rights for her biotechnology and pharmaceutical clients. She provides counsel in all areas of global intellectual property portfolio management, including patent prosecution, validity and infringement opinions, patent opposition proceedings, reexamination, protests and interferences. With a Ph.D. in biochemistry, and almost two decades of experience in biotechnology and pharmaceutical intellectual property law, Dr. Rasheed is a valued strategic partner to clients seeking advice in management of complex intellectual property portfolios. Dr. Rasheed is a frequent speaker at intellectual property symposia. In 2012, she was appointed by Mayor Rahm Emanuel to the Chicago Commission on Human Relations.

Both Ms. Frantzen and Dr. Rasheed are committed to the advancement of women in the legal profession and have served in various positions to promote the strength of the firm through diversity initiatives.
