Two of the Firm’s Founding Partners Recognized as Leading IP Attorneys in Illinois
CHICAGO, IL – June 08, 2004 – McAndrews, Held & Malloy, Ltd. announced today its ranking by Chambers USA as one of the top intellectual property law firms in Illinois. In addition, George P. McAndrews and Timothy J. Malloy, two of the firm’s founding partners, are identified as leading intellectual property attorneys. The Chambers USA guide is an objective and independent-research-based directory which assesses law firms and individuals based upon thousands of interviews with clients and lawyers.
Chambers USA described McAndrews, Held & Malloy as being “staffed with aggressive and smart attorneys” and that the firm “excels in all areas of IP, particularly patent litigation.” Peers surveyed cited McAndrews, Held & Malloy’s expertise in the electrical and medical device industries, and also noted the firm’s broad client base, which includes companies in such industries as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, specialty and intermediate chemicals, lighting technologies, telecommunications and mechanical systems. Also highlighted is the firm’s long involvement with trade associations.
“It’s an honor to be recognized this way by our clients and peers,” said George McAndrews, founding member and senior partner of McAndrews, Held & Malloy. “This reflects all of the hard work it has taken to build one of the most exceptional intellectual property and technology-focused legal teams in the industry.”
George McAndrews, who is recognized as the leading intellectual property attorney in Illinois along with one other attorney, was described as the “preeminent trial lawyer” by both clients and peers. They noted that he is “particularly skilled at explaining complex, technical facts to a jury,” and that his “strategic-oriented approach to patent litigation has attracted such work as representing the nation’s chiropractors in an ongoing battle against Trigon Blue Cross/Blue Shield.” McAndrews also recently achieved an $8 million settlement for Genlyte Thomas Group in a case involving lighting equipment.
Tim Malloy, who is also listed as one of the leading intellectual property attorneys in Illinois, was described as a “top notch attorney who acts on a variety of cases, with particular concentration on patent infringements in the fields of electrical engineering, electronics and medical devices.” Malloy recently obtained $166 million in damages on behalf of client Advanced Cardiovascular Systems in a patent infringement suit against Medtronic. The case involved an invention for rapid exchange angioplasty, and the damages award is one of the top ten largest in U.S. history. “The strength of our firm lies in our ability to communicate in simple and understandable terms the complex technology and legal issues we confront in the intellectual property field each day,” said Tim Malloy, founding partner of McAndrews, Held & Malloy. “This has led to our unparalleled record of litigation successes across the country.”
