McAndrews, Held & Malloy Adds Six New Associates to Firm


 

CHICAGO, IL – December 1, 2004 – McAndrews, Held & Malloy, Ltd. announced today the addition of six new associates to the firm, each of whom possesses a law degree and a bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, physics or chemistry.  Now comprised of more than 90 attorneys and nine technology specialists, McAndrews, Held & Malloy’s recent performance and success has solidified its reputation as one of the nation's preeminent legal resources on intellectual property and technology matters.

Christopher J. Buchko graduated summa cum laude from the Santa Clara University School of Law.  He also holds both a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Stanford University.  He is also registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  Prior to joining McAndrews, Held & Malloy, Buchko worked as a patent agent, legal associate and engineer at the Guidant Corporation, a leading medical device manufacturer.  He also worked at the Affymax Research Institute, a drug discovery and product development company.  Buchko is an inventor on 10 issued and five pending U.S. patents as a result of his work at both companies.

Jeremy N. Gayed graduated magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame Law School, and also received Bachelor of Science degrees in chemistry and political science from Wheaton College.  While in law school, Gayed served as the executive note editor for the Notre Dame Law Review.  

Andrew B. Karp, who was previously a summer associate at McAndrews, Held & Malloy in 2002, graduated from the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri.  He also graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering.  Prior to joining McAndrews, Held & Malloy,
For 10 years, Karp worked as an electrical engineer for General Electric, Radio Sound, and Blackbird.  As an engineer, he focused on the design, development and production of microcontroller-based technologies.  He also served as an editor of the Washington University Law Quarterly.  

Paul W. McAndrews, who was previously a summer associate at McAndrews, Held & Malloy, graduated from the University of Notre Dame Law School, and also received a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Elmhurst College, where he received the Chairperson’s Award for Excellence in Physics.  McAndrews currently focuses on intellectual property litigation in such areas as industrial paper machines, cardiac defibrillators, electronic lighting systems, surgical suction-irrigators and lava lamps.

Laura M. Personick, who was previously a summer associate at McAndrews, Held & Malloy in 2002, graduated from the University of Chicago and also received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from the University of Virginia.  During her time at the firm, Personick worked on litigation and patent prosecution covering a wide variety of technologies.  Personick also majored in archaeology and obtained field experience in bone analysis and field methods at both the Institute of Human Origins and the University of Wittswatersrand in South Africa.  

Jonathan M. Rushman, who was previously a summer associate at McAndrews, Held & Malloy in 2003, graduated from the DePaul University College of Law and received a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan.  He is also registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  Since joining the firm, Rushman has prepared and prosecuted patent applications on various technologies and has assisted in many phases of litigation.  Prior to joining the firm, he gained industry experience in mechanical design, manufacturing processes and software development.
