McAndrews, Held & Malloy Attorney Mike Harlin Named One of Law Bulletin Publishing Company’s 2008 ‘40 Illinois Attorneys Under Forty to Watch’

CHICAGO, IL – Aug. 28, 2008 – McAndrews, Held & Malloy shareholder Michael B. Harlin was named one of the 2008 “40 Illinois Attorneys Under Forty to Watch” by the Law Bulletin Publishing Company, publisher of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin and Chicago Lawyer.

The selection process is based on nominees’ lawyering skills and career achievements, as well as how quickly the nominees have risen within their area of practice, and their contributions to the community and the profession.

Harlin’s peers cite his exceptional character as greatly contributing to his success.  Harlin’s clients also offered high praise, touting his skills, intelligence and expertise.

“Mike’s skill has helped us to identify areas of patentability that otherwise would have been missed, and, therefore, would have resulted in the loss of significant intellectual property assets had they not been identified,” said client Keith Koford, of Alachua, Fla.-based RTI Biologics, Inc.

Harlin was also recognized for his contributions to the legal profession, including his founding of a specialized CLE program devoted to preparing and prosecuting patents.  He is president-elect of the Chicago Intellectual Property Alliance (CIPA), a not-for-profit group of corporations, law schools and law firms that promotes intellectual property education and awareness, and is co-chair of CIPA’s Science Fair committee, which judges the Chicago Public Schools Student Science Fair projects.

In his work with some of the most successful companies in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, Harlin focuses on all aspects of patent law, including patent prosecution, licensing, litigation, due diligence investigation, and opinion preparation.  He has represented clients in diverse fields such as production and use of antibodies and peptides, controlled release pharmaceutical formulations, allograft transplants, ophthalmological treatments, medical devices, laser equipment, solid state analytical techniques, and high oleic-acid foods.

“Mike’s in-depth knowledge and experience in a complex field, along with his dedication to serving his clients and the legal profession, make him very worthy of this recognition,” said McAndrews’ founding partner and president George P. McAndrews.  “We are thrilled with his contributions on behalf of our clients and our firm, and we congratulate him on this honor.”

McAndrews shareholders James (Jay) R. Nuttall and Dean A. Pelletier were previously recognized as “40 Under Forty” attorneys by Law Bulletin Publishing Company.  They received the honor in 2007 and 2006, respectively.
