CHICAGO, IL – June 30, 2009 – McAndrews, Held & Malloy has been recognized by the international rating firm Chambers & Partners as one of the nation’s leading intellectual property law firms. In addition, McAndrews Board Chairman George P. McAndrews and board member Timothy J. Malloy, both founding partners of the firm, were recognized by Chambers as two of the top intellectual property attorneys in Illinois. Both have been listed consistently among the elite group in past editions of the directory. In USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business 2009, Chambers specifically noted McAndrews’ “increasingly national focus” and highlighted its recent settlement victory for clients CryoCor, Inc. and Boston Scientific Corporation. Chambers also quoted sources describing McAndrews attorneys as “always hard-working and energetic.” The directory stated that George McAndrews and Malloy “are demonstrative of the firm’s deep bench of lawyers with science and engineering backgrounds, and of the firm’s strong litigation capabilities.”
In Chambers’ Illinois rankings, Malloy and the firm are listed in “band 1,” the highest-rated group for law firms and individual attorneys. One of the most widely-cited referral sources for legal services, Chambers interviews clients and conducts independent peer reviews to develop its rankings, which are based on factors including legal ability, professional conduct, commercial astuteness, client service, diligence, commitment and other qualities valued by clients.
George McAndrews was praised by commentators as “a great choice for litigating on complex engineering and science problems in front of juries.” He has represented clients in billion-dollar patent disputes and has achieved numerous multi-million-dollar awards and settlements. George McAndrews has worked with clients in a wide variety of industries, successfully litigating matters involving mechanical, electrical and chemical subject matter, before juries in federal and state courts throughout the United States.
Tim Malloy is nationally known for his intellectual property litigation successes in the medical device, electrical and mechanical fields. His professional highlights include securing one of the largest intellectual property damages awards in U.S. history on behalf of Advanced Cardiovascular Systems, Inc., and arguing before the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of Eli Lilly and Company, the leading case directed to the scope of patent protection for medical devices.
