Kirk A. Vander Leest

As a registered patent attorney for almost 20 years, Kirk Vander Leest is extremely efficient and effective in preparing and prosecuting patents for a wide variety of technologies, including medical devices, such as drug-eluting stents, blood glucose monitors and ophthalmic lens generators; electronics; telecommunications; and automotive components. His significant experience litigating intellectual property rights as either lead or co-counsel includes intently overseeing pre-filing investigations, identifying and supervising experts, preparing and arguing pre-trial and dispositive motions, as well as pre-trial hearings including Markman proceedings, and managing and conducting all aspects of discovery. Kirk has extensive experience with interference and reexamination proceedings, including inter partes reexaminations, before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and opposition proceedings before the European Patent Office.

Kirk regularly counsels his clients, which range from multi-billion-dollar corporations and midsize technology, industrial and manufacturing companies to other law firms that do not have full-service IP practices, on the procurement and enforcement of intellectual property rights, as well as IP issues such as patentability, infringement, due-diligence reviews and analysis, and potential acquisitions of IP assets. He also focuses on transactional work such as patent portfolio management and development, and freedom-to-operate opinions.
