Professional Experience
David Petty is an attorney specializing in intellectual property law.  His practice includes patent prosecution and litigation, trademark litigation, and copyright litigation.  David has also prepared several patentability, freedom to operate, and patent infringement opinions on various technologies and has been involved in intellectual property licensing and due diligence activities.

David has prepared and prosecuted numerous patent applications relating to such diverse technological areas as electrical connectors, medical imaging devices, surgical navigation devices, spinal decompression and therapy, plantar fasciitis treatments, caps and seals for pressurized containers, polymerization systems, soap dispensers, processes for consolidating dry fiber fabric, pressurized toilets, safety locking devices, beam assemblies for building structures, electrical floor boxes and poke-throughs, surgical implants, and audio speakers.

David also has significant litigation experience.  He has been involved in lawsuits concerning areas of technology such as contact lenses, lighting systems, foam soap dispensers, electrical floor boxes, electrotherapeutic devices, video poker machines, and computer jukeboxes.   Davidís litigation experience includes most aspects of major patent litigation including conducting pre-filing investigations, participating in strategy sessions, discovery, claim construction procedures, motion practice, and presenting and arguing motions in federal court.  David has also been involved in briefing and argument before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and has worked on several cases before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.

David received his B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Iowa State University in 1998 and graduated with distinction from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 2001.  While at Nebraska, he was selected to be a member of the Moot Court Board and won the 2001 ASCAP Nathan Burkham Legal Writing Competition for the Nebraska College of Law for his paper, Itar-Tass Revisited: Should U.S. Courts Apply Foreign Copyright Law?, which was published in the December 2001 issue of the New York Bar Association's Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Journal.
