Professional Experience
Robert B. Polit has over twenty years experience in representing clients in patent prosecution, counseling, portfolio management, and dispute resolution (including litigation). He has assisted at least three major multinational corporations establish and improve their in-house intellectual property departments. His client representation has included:
Sustaining long-term competitive goals of client through direct participation in all aspects of corporate intellectual property processes based on thorough understanding of client's business operations and markets; Participating in litigation and other dispute resolution activities in both direct and ancillary roles; Prosecuting patent applications before the USPTO and foreign patent offices; Preparing patent infringement/non-infringement as well as validity/invalidity opinions; Conducting and participating in competitive analyses vis-ΰ-vis IP of competitors; Tracking client IP portfolios to target licensing and marketing opportunities; Direct participation in corporate licensing activities; Conducting and participating in invention mining meetings and invention disclosure reviews; and Giving presentations to clients regarding developing case law and revisions to statutory laws.
Mr. Polits background in electrical engineering has allowed him to successfully represent clients in various technologies including: CMOS image sensors, software operating systems (including microkernel OS designs), embedded system design, real-time software for embedded systems, digital filters, speech signal recognition, speech/audio enhancement systems, semiconductor electroplating chemistry/apparatus, mass spectrometry, OFDM communications systems, radar systems, web-based systems, and food packaging/processing apparatus.
Mr. Polit has litigated patents involving microprocessor-based calculator systems, laser printers, semiconductor devices and manufacturing, and electroplating chemistry/apparatus.
Mr. Polit is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) as well as the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago (IPLAC), where he served as the co-chair of its Litigation Committee. He is also a member and past president of the University of Illinois Engineering Alumni Association, which honored him with the distinguished University of Illinois Alumni Leadership Award.
