McAndrews, Held & Malloy shareholder Herbert D. Hart III will speak at the “Patent Litigation 2016: The Courts and Patent Trial and Appeal Board” event on April 28, 2016, in Chicago. Hart has been litigating cases before the PTAB for several decades and is often called upon for his extensive knowledge on the intricacies of PTAB trial practice.
This year’s program is presented by The Federal Circuit Bar Association, in conjunction with The John Marshall Law School, The Notre Dame Law School, and DePaul University College of Law. It will be held at The John Marshall Law School. The conference will cover claim construction in both the courts and PTAB, patent damages, case management, and ethics, and it will include a special panel on “hot patent topics.” At the event, Hart will participate in a panel discussion on “Ethical Considerations in View of Amendments to PTAB and Federal Rules,” alongside Judge Virginia M. Kendall of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and Phillip Segrest Jr. of Husch Blackwelll LLP. The session will be moderated by Eric Cohen of Brinks Gilson & Lione.

Herbert D. Hart III regularly litigated cases before the PTAB and has done so over several decades in a wide range of technologies, with a particular emphasis on life sciences and chemical technologies. Among his successes at the PTAB have been cases involving antihistamines, oncology drugs, interventional cardiology technology, polymer catalysts and processes, hydrocarbon conversion catalysts and processes, wireless communication technology, and data encryption technology. Hart contributes to the legal profession by serving in leadership positions in all three national intellectual property law associations. He has served on the AIPLA’s Special Task Force on AIA Rulemaking and he was also appointed to the six-member Intellectual Property Owners Association/American Bar Association (ABA)/AIPLA Expert Committee on Regulations for Conducting New Post-Grant Review/Iner Partes Review Procedures (also known as the “Gang of 6”).
