McAndrews Names Three New Board Members, Two New Partners

CHICAGO, IL – February 15, 2013 – McAndrews, Held & Malloy, Ltd., one of the nation’s preeminent law firms specializing in intellectual property and complex technology law, has announced the elevation of three veteran attorneys to its Board of Directors. In addition, the firm has promoted two associates to partner. 

The new board members are:

Andrew B. Karp, who concentrates primarily on patent prosecution, and works on a wide range of complex technologies, particularly in the area of electrical, software, and computer systems.  He understands the competitive nature and the pressures of today’s marketplace for high-tech firms because prior to law school, Karp worked as an electrical and computer engineer for 10 years.  As an engineer, Karp focused on communications and embedded technologies, and created a wide variety of products, including applications, operating systems, motorcycle audio systems, home appliances, and intelligent control systems. 

Paul W. McAndrews, whose primary focus is intellectual property litigation involving patents, trademarks, trade secrets and unfair competition.  He has worked on cases dealing with a wide array of technologies, including multifocal contact lenses, a variety of medical devices, computer jukeboxes, beverage container technology and thermoformed automotive accessories, to name a few.  McAndrews has served as lead counsel for major clients and handles almost all aspects of patent litigation and other forms of dispute resolution.

Laura M. Personick, who practices a broad range of intellectual property law, with an emphasis on patent and trademark litigation. She participates in all aspects of dispute resolution, from pre-litigation consultation and the formulation of strategy to discovery and trial and appellate work. Personick also has prosecuted patent and trademark applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. She works with diverse technologies including software, electronics and mechanics of barcode printers, orthopedic prosthetic devices, cryoablation medical devices and nutraceutical compositions, among many others. 

The new McAndrews, Held & Malloy partners are:

Kristopher R. Davis, who represents his clients in patent litigation, licensing and prosecution involving technologies such as medical devices, software applications, business methods and digital communication systems. Davis’ litigation experience includes pre-suit investigations, all phases of fact and expert discovery, Markman hearings and pre-trial preparation. He has also represented clients in numerous inter partesreexamination proceedings before the USPTO. In helping his clients grow their IP portfolios, Davis has prepared and prosecuted numerous patent applications and counseled clients in due-diligence investigations relating to IP acquisitions.  

Kathleen A. Meyer, who practices in a variety of areas of intellectual property law, including patent litigation, patent and trademark prosecution, licensing, product clearance, and client counseling involving technologies such as medical devices, nutritional products and chemical processes.  Meyer focuses her practice on patent litigation and has represented clients through pre-suit investigations, fact and expert discovery, Markman hearings, summary judgment and pre-trial preparation. She has also represented clients in numerous appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Prior to law school, Meyer worked in a neurobiology laboratory at Northwestern University.
