McAndrews Shareholder Christopher V. Carani Invited to Speak on Design Patent Law at Giles S. Rich American Inn of Court in Washington D.C.

McAndrews, Held & Malloy Shareholder Christopher V. Carani will participate in a panel discussion entitled “A Deep Dive Into Design Patent Law” at the Giles S. Rich American Inn of Court on February 13, 2013. The other panelist is David Gerk from the United States Patent & Trademark Office’s Office of Policy & External Affairs. The program will take place at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C.

Christopher V. Carani, Esq. is a leading authority in the field of design law, which involves the protection and enforcement of product design through the use of copyrights, trade dress and design patents. He has litigated numerous disputes regarding design rights and has served as a legal consultant and expert witness in design law cases. In the design patent case Egyptian Goddess v. Swisa, which reshaped the law on design patents, Carani represented the amicus curiae American Intellectual Property Law Association at both the petition and en banc phases.
Carani’s insights on the Apple v. Samsung patent litigation trial and its implications for the technology community were featured in major news outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, LA Times, InformationWeek, Bloomberg, Businessweek, Fortune/CNN Money, Reuters, International Herald Tribune, and PC World. He also made multiple guest appearances on CNBC, CNN, BBC, NPR, Bloomberg TV and Fox Business. Carani currently chairs the American Bar Association’s Committee on Design Rights.
After earning his engineering degree from Marquette University and his law degree from the University of Chicago, Carani served as a law clerk to the Honorable Rebecca Pallmeyer at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He is a registered patent attorney and licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
