Shareholder Sandra Frantzen recently spoke with Chicago Lawyer staff writer David Thomas about her experience in the Arab American Bar Association of Illinois (AABAR), where she currently serves as Vice President. Frantzen shares how the mission of the AABAR, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, has evolved over the years. Current efforts include creating opportunities to counteract negative perceptions of Arab Americans as well as collaborating with other groups and Bar Associations such as the Decalogue Society. At McAndrews, Frantzen’s practice focuses on intellectual property law including patent litigation, strategic intellectual property acquisition, and client counseling. Frantzen has experience in various industries with a particular focus in the pharmaceutical, medical device, biotechnology and chemical industries. Frantzen is a trial attorney and litigator that concentrates on assisting clients with resolving global IP disputes. She has served as lead trial counsel for clients at both start-up and Fortune 500 companies, with cases ranging from small to those involving damages in the hundreds of millions. In addition, Frantzen is experienced in handling proceedings with the U.S. Patent Office and has acted as lead counsel in multiple inter partes review proceedings. Her work recently received four favorable Final Written Decisions by the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
Frantzen graduated with honors from The University of Chicago Law School in 1999. She was recently one of six women honored for outstanding achievements in the practice of law by the AABAR and the Decalogue Society and has also been recognized as one of “40 Illinois Attorneys Under 40” to watch by the Law Bulletin Publishing Company.
