With key America Invents Act provisions being implemented in 2013, it’s more important than ever for attorneys to understand and convey to clients the new developments in U.S. and global intellectual property law.

In October 2013, McAndrews, Held & Malloy held its annual Intellectual Property Symposium. The event, attended by IP practitioners from the Chicago area, throughout the United States, and abroad, provided strategic and practical approaches to litigating at the Patent Office, growing and developing patent portfolios, and managing the costs of litigation.

The 2013 Symposium built upon those held in previous years by focusing on the increasingly important interrelationship between the worlds of business and law. Attendees learned more about practical, “how-to” approaches, and were able to immediately apply the lessons learned to the recommendations they provide on AIA-related procedures and the latest IP and complex technology laws.

Presenters included attorneys from McAndrews, Held & Malloy, as well as representatives from such innovative companies as Stryker Corporation, JM Huber Corporation, Navistar International, Stepan Company and others, who were on hand to share their experience and insights.

Each year, the Symposium aims to provide a comprehensive look at cutting-edge IP and technology developments in an efficient and effective manner. What follows is a synopsis of three of the most relevant and popular topics presented at the event.
