The new McAndrews Partners are:

Chad Gilles concentrates his practice in all aspects of patent prosecution and maximizes client value through the strategic development of patent portfolios. Gilles has successfully created and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications covering both hardware and software electronics, as well as exemplary technologies that include, Ethernet, DSL and various cellular standards, among others. Prior to joining McAndrews, Gilles gained technical experience through his work as an electronics engineer for both startups and large corporations.

Erick Michel, Ph.D. has extensive experience in patent protection, assessing the patentability of inventions, and drafting and prosecuting the applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He has drafted more than 300 patent applications in matters relating to all areas of electrical and computer engineering, and has been involved in due diligence matters and litigation support for electronics technologies. Michel obtained his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University and gained real-world experience working for companies in the telecommunications, semiconductor and infrared sensing fields. Michel has published more than 30 articles in scientific journals and conference proceedings, and is a member of Eta Kappa Nu and Sigma Xi, electrical engineering and scientific research honor societies.

Anna Targowska, recipient of The Best Electrical Engineering Senior Award from Northwestern University, focuses her practice on high-stakes patent litigation involving electronic and semiconductor devices. Targowska is heavily engaged in developing case strategies for plaintiffs and defendants alike from the onset of litigation through trial. Her invalidity and non-infringement analysis of a family of patents directed to electronic device communication systems led to a favorable settlement of one of the firm’s high-profile cases. Given her extensive background in electrical engineering, Targowska provides targeted and effective solutions to her clients. She is well-known for turning over a newly filed suit against her client into a voluntary dismissal in the course of a few days. As a litigator, Targowska attends and conducts depositions, hearings and oral arguments. She also frequently advises clients on IP portfolio management and due-diligence matters, and represents clients in USPTO and PTAB proceedings, including inter partes reviews. Prior to joining McAndrews, Targowska worked as a systems engineer for an entertainment media company, where she designed and implemented database systems and software applications.

Malaika Tyson, Ph.D. concentrates on corporate IP and patent protection strategies. Her deep experience with IP analysis, portfolio management, IP due diligence and post-grant proceedings allows her to uniquely serve clients in a variety of matters, particularly in the consumer goods, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Prior to joining McAndrews, Tyson received her Ph.D. in Chemistry from Purdue, and gained valuable analytical experience working as a Senior Research and Development Scientist at Sigma-Aldrich Biotechnology. Tyson is the Immediate Past Chair of the Chicago Committee Associate Board; Co-Chair of the AIPLA PTAB Biotechnology Subcommittee; and Vice-Chair and Founding Associate Regional Board Member of Bottom Line Chicago.
