High Quality Counts: McAndrews Lauded in National Rankings for Fourth Consecutive Year
CHICAGO, IL – May 16, 2013 – McAndrews, Held & Malloy’s commitment to providing the best outcomes for clients has led to recognition for the fourth consecutive year as one of the intellectual property law firms in America that secured the highest-quality patents for their clients. The firm was ranked by Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) magazine, in partnership with Ocean Tomo, as second in the nation in the “Overall, All Industries” category and third in the nation in the “Information Technology” category.
“It is an honor to be included in these types of recognitions, but our main focus is to always strive to exceed our clients’ expectations,” said founding partner and Chairman Timothy J. Malloy. “Our top-class patent attorneys consistently provide strategic counsel on the development and management of high-quality IP portfolios for our clients, which range from multinational corporations and Fortune 500 companies to startups.”
The annual rankings include law firms selected in one or more of the following four industry sectors: Industrials, Information Technology, Consumer Electronics/Discretionary and Healthcare (pharma/bio). An overall ranking encompassing all technology sectors is also compiled. Ocean Tomo’s metrics are based on the notion that quality can be defined and measured by the actions of patent holders; the patents they elect to maintain have value (high quality), while those they abandon do not (mid- to low quality).
In building the rankings each year, Ocean Tomo first selects the top 50 law firms according to the number of U.S. utility patents issued over the trailing three years within each of the four industry sectors. It also selects the top 100 law firms overall. Firms are then ranked according to patent quality scores generated by the Ocean Tomo Ratings system.
