Michael S. Tomsa ShareholderMichael S. Tomsa is a Shareholder at McAndrews. He has a hands-on approach to patent matters that leverages knowledge gained from his academic training as an electrical engineer, five years of experience as a patent agent and technical adviser, and the prosecution of hundreds of patent applications. Michael has broad experience in the aerospace, electronics, and medical device industries, and his patent work has included medical devices, drones, spacecraft, battery charger systems, computer software and hardware, and cell phones. He counsels clients ranging from solo inventors to Fortune 500 companies on all aspects of prosecuting and protecting patents. In litigation, he represents clients in proceedings before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, U.S. District Courts, the U.S. International Trade Commission, and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. He also guides clients through the complex procedures of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including ex parte and inter partes re-examinations and inter partes review proceedings under the America Invents Act. As a registered U.S. patent attorney, Michael not only prosecutes patents but also counsels clients on the long-range protection and monetization of their intellectual property, including portfolio management, expansion planning, and due diligence matters. Michael received his B.S.E.E. from the Illinois Institute of Technology and his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law, both in Chicago, Illinois. EDUCATION
