Ryan J. Pianetto ShareholderRyan Pianetto is a Shareholder at McAndrews and represents clients in many aspects of intellectual property law, including patent and trademark litigation, patent and trademark preparation and prosecution, freedom-to-operate, and intellectual property due diligence and transactions. He has participated in all aspects of litigation, including pre-litigation investigations, pleadings, managing discovery, pretrial motions, claim construction, expert discovery, dispositive motions, and trial preparation. Ryan has counseled clients of various sizes from individual inventors to Fortune 500 companies on diverse technologies, including medical and surgical devices, a wide array of mechanical systems and devices, and electromechanical devices. He is a member of the state bars of Illinois and Indiana and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Prior to joining the firm, Ryan gained substantial experience at another intellectual property law firm and a large intellectual property services provider where he prepared and prosecuted patent applications before the USPTO and counseled clients on patentability, freedom to operate, invalidity, and clearance. He also drafted written opinions for PCT patent applications on behalf of the USPTO. In these roles, Ryan received extensive experience in rapidly familiarizing himself with the technology and analyzing the patent disclosures and prior art at issue. Ryan received his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he was listed on the Dean’s Honor List and received a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law. He earned a Bachelor of Science with honors in Civil Engineering and a minor in Business Administration from the University of Iowa.
