Sam Howard is an Associate at McAndrews. His practice is focused on patent prosecution, with additional experience in patent opinion analysis, licensing, and litigation preparation. He has prepared, drafted, and prosecuted patent applications in jurisdictions including the United States, Europe, China, Japan, and Korea. Prior to joining McAndrews, Sam practiced at another law firm, and he also served in in-house patent prosecution and patent licensing roles at two Fortune 500 companies and a mid-sized startup.

Sam received his J.D. from Boston University School of Law, where he graduated with a concentration in intellectual property & information privacy law with honors. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he studied physics. In his practice, Sam leverages his technical background working in advanced technology areas such as machine learning and AI (in contexts such as image segmentation/identification, NLP models, and hardware operation), signal processing and data transmission, fiber optics, optical interconnects, computer engineering and software, 3D printing and related additive manufacturing modalities, and medical, mechanical, and electrical devices. Additionally, Sam is certified by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) as a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) and as a Certified Information Privacy Professional – US Specialization (CIPP/US).
