Best Lawyers is one of the oldest and most respected peer-reviewed publications in the legal profession. Inclusion in this year’s 20th edition is based on more than 4.9 million detailed evaluations of lawyers by other lawyers. Best Lawyers is regarded by both clients and legal professionals as a significant honor, since leading lawyers vote for their peers to be listed and are not permitted to pay any fee to participate.

Nationally recognized for his intellectual property litigation successes, Timothy J. Malloyhas been involved in numerous multi-million-dollar verdicts, awards and settlements, and has served as lead counsel in IP-related trials throughout the country.  His professional highlights include arguing before the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of Eli Lilly and Company the leading case directed to the scope of patent protection for medical devices, obtaining a $166 million judgment for infringement, and obtaining a $5million award of attorney’s fees for an exceptional case. In 2013, Malloy was featured in the inaugural “IAM 1,000: The World’s Leading Patent Practitioners.” He was also listed by Chambers USA as one of the top IP trial lawyers in Illinois and characterized as an “Outstanding Trial Lawyer,” and has been designated a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, a trial lawyer honorary society composed of less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers. Malloy was listed for the first time in Best Lawyers in 1999.

John J. Held has successfully counseled clients across a wide spectrum of industries in patent, trademark and copyright infringement actions, patent appeals and interferences, and trademark oppositions/cancellation proceedings.  His experience involves working with products such as automotive parts and equipment, web handling and processing equipment, software products, refuse handling equipment, electronic receptacles and fittings, computer jukeboxes and games, sporting goods and consumer products.  Held has been included in this listing since 2006.
