Alan Montera PartnerAlan Montera is a Partner at McAndrews whose practice focuses on intellectual property litigation and prosecution. He has experience in pre-suit investigation and assessment, motion practice, and discovery for cases in a variety of technical areas. He also has experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications. Alan graduated magna cum laude from Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he was a member of the Chicago-Kent Law Review and the Intellectual Property Law Society, as well as the treasurer for the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA). He earned the CALI award for the highest grade in Evidence and Legal Writing III. He was inducted into the Order of the Coif in 2019. Prior to law school, Alan graduated with merit from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. After completing training through the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, he served as a junior officer on the USS Seawolf (SSN 21), a fast attack submarine based in Bremerton, Washington. As a junior officer, he was responsible for supervising the multi-million dollar S6W Nuclear Reactor, as well as navigating the submarine through international waters. While aboard, the Seawolf completed a six-month Western Pacific deployment and multiple significant maintenance and upgrade periods. After completing his naval service, Alan returned to Chicago where he had grown up. He worked as a maintenance supervisor at a steel mill supervising both mechanical and electrical maintenance technicians. Subsequently, he worked as a senior engineer responsible for the design, manufacture, and failure analysis of mechanical seals used in diesel and consumer grade pumps. EDUCATION
