John C. Dewar AssociateJohn C. Dewar is an Associate at McAndrews whose practice focuses on patent litigation and prosecution, as well as trademark and copyright disputes. Prior to joining the firm as a full-time associate, John worked as a summer associate, gaining experience in patent litigation and prosecution, motion practice, and pre-suit assessments and investigations. John earned his J.D., cum laude, from Washington University School of Law, where he received the William M. Pomerantz Trial Award, the John S. Meyer, Jr. Scholar in Law Scholarship, the Honor Scholar Award, and the Excellence in Oral Advocacy award. John participated in the Giles S. Rich Moot Court Competition and the International Trademark Association’s Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition, where he took first place and won the award for best oralist in the Southern region. John was also an active member of the Intellectual Property Law Society and participated in the Intellectual Property Clinic. John earned his Master of Science in Chemistry from Purdue University and his Bachelor of Science, cum laude, in Chemistry from Rhodes College. Prior to attending law school, John worked as a chemist in the oil and pharmaceutical industries, which provided valuable experience in product development, formulation, and manufacturing. EDUCATION
